|Set Layers:| layers provide a method for grouping objects. Individual layers can be turned on and off for viewing, and their overlapping order is easily changed. Layers are also used for Scripted Images.
|Mask|: specify the mask buffer to limit processing to |On| bits within the mask. The mask is in addition to other masks implicit in parmaters |P1| and |P2|.
|Do Execution|: enables the Script Command for this layer.
|Execute Choice|: if checked, allow scripting for this layer. If not checked, the layer is ignored while processing script commands.
|P1|: if allowed by the command, specify the first parameter of the command.
|Script Command|: specify the image processing command for this layer.
|Scroll Bar: | Click above the 'thumb' (white square) to move the viewing position upwards; click below to move downwards, or click and drag the 'thumb' to a new location. (Inactive if all layers are within the viewable list).
|Key Column Choice:| click on the |Key Column| to set the |Selected Layer| for editing. You can also click and drag the layer to a new location; or double-click to set the |Active Layer| and exit.
|Layer Name Select/Move:| You can select any layer by clicking. Move a layer by dragging it up or down. A double click immediately exits to the chosen layer.
|Show Choice: | is normally set on, indicated by a checkmark. If turned off, then the layer is not shown, and objects cannot be selected. (Of course any layers above the |Active Layer| are also invisible).
|Active Layer Choice:| click to choose a different |Active Layer| (layers above the |Active Layer| are unaccessible). Your choice does not affect the |Selected Layer|.

|Script Choice|: shows the command for this layer. Values are set using pop up menus, below.

|P2|: if allowed by the command, specify the second parameter of the command.
|Script Command|: each layer can have one command for execution. This command is only executed when composing a picture as a |scripted image|.

|Edit Selected Layer:| the |Selected Layer| is the layer for editing, and, in the above list, is highlighted in black. (In contrast, the |Active Layer| is indicated by a checkmark in the first column, above).
|Top-Level Objects: |indicates the number of objects in this layer. Objects within grouped objects are not counted.

|Multi-Layer Select:| when off (normal case), only objects in the |Active Layer| can be selected. When on, all objects in the |Active Layer| and layers below, can be selected. (Layers above are always invisible and unselectable).
|Active Layer:| a checkmark indicates the active layer; all layers below it are visible; layers above are invisible for all display, printing, etc.
|Show:| a checkmark in this column indicates that the layer is visible, subject to being at or beneath the |Active Layer|. The |Active Layer| always is checked.

|Key Column:| the key column shows the current Command-Option character for setting the active layer.
|Layer Name Column:| this column is a list of names for all available layers. The layer name is used in the |Layers Menu|.

|Key Code:| Command-Option keys, with this letter, changes the active layer to this layer. Enter a unique lower case letter.
|Layer Name:| Enter a name to refer to this layer.

|New:| creates a new layer immediately after the active layer. Up to 8000 layers can be created, memory permitting.
|Delete:| the currently selected layer, shown in the |Layer List| is deleted. The last layer cannot be deleted.
